My Personal Experience:
I had no problems mixing my clay and my application to the hair was smooth.
First I moisturize my hair by adding a spritz of water and I lightly finger detangle with an added oil for my strands to glide apart easier before applying the mix.
After completing a section coating hair and scalp, I twist it up to prevent it from tangling back up through the process. Let it sit 15 minutes while running a nice warm bubble bath, epsom salts are optional. The bath is for the remainder of the clay mix! Yes...so rub it all over your skin, or just the face, but the more the merrier. Let it harden and then get in the tub to soak away your stress and built up toxins. It will absorb the toxins and you will feel so relaxed and cleansed.
Rinse the clay from the hair very thoroughly in shower mode now, focusing in one section at a time and then condition your hair while rinsing away more clay and using your favorite moisturizing soap. Do not shampoo at any point, the clay took away all the excess products, dirt, oils, toxins, flakes, all of that went down the drain. Yay!
Now I add natural ingredients to my hair and skin to put good in and nourish it. Oils like Coconut, Olive, Jojoba, and Butters like Mango and Shea Butter are great at sealing in the moisture. When you do a clay treatment your hair should also feel lighter. Shampoo cleanses only the outside of a strand. Clay does both by pulling things from within your hair strands. Pretty cool concept.
I also noticed in a sink of water I used for my hands. I dipped my hand in to get rid of some naturally shed hairs and clay, and then I saw my hair strand sink down to the bottom...but my hair ALWAYS floats because my hair is low porosity! Water does not easily go into my strands even after 15 minutes, it floats, which is why I deep condition using heat to open my hair cuticle....hope I didn't lose anyone there lol but bentonite clay had an immediate affect on my hair and I saw the difference.
Conclusion:
I will do another clay treatment in the future because I use the LOC method a lot.( I put Liquid on my hair followed by an Oil then a natural Cream to lock in moisture, this helps to add slip for finger detangling in sections for my twist out too) My hair thrives with more moisture, gentle handling, consistency in my hair routine, a clean moisturized scalp, trimmed ends using proper hair shears, and protectives styles like mini twists.
Over time things get absorbed in our hair, make sure you give your hair what it needs depending on your hair type. Think about your hair density per square inch, hair porosity (high or low), strand thickness, curl pattern in each section, and overall know the differences around your hair and how to give those sections what they need.
Ex. Hairlines usually have thin fine fragile "baby" hairs. Chemically processed hair, such as color and perms, have characteristics of being high porosity. It absorbs and releases moisture quickly and will sink in a water strand test.
I got to know my hair over the last few years by looking closely at my strands and trying new things to see how it reacts. Everyone's hair is unique like a fingerprint because it changes with your body. Hormones, health, and genetics play a big part.
More information to come, thank you for having an open mind to recieve and hopefully share some knowledge from one of your personal journeys as well.
